Landscapers in Chicago have been around ever since men discovered the wonders that plants do to the surroundings. Proof is the number of gardens and landscaped Roman and English courtyards that existed centuries ago. Plants, with their various shades of green, can be a visual feast. It is up to landscapers to work with variation, color repetition, balance, proportion, shape, proximity, contrast and various elements and principles to really bring out the aesthetic value.

Technically, a landscaper is a professional who work with yards, particularly its layout, its vegetation and the accessories. Landscapers can be a word used to describe entire firms or companies. They can also be used for individuals who work in teams, and for people who work with plants and gardening, despite not having formal architecture and design education.

There are landscaping architects and engineers, with the former specializing on layout, water distribution and environmental impact, and the latter specializing on making the plans and layouts a reality. There are also landscape designers who have vast knowledge of horticulture and decorative plants. They work hand in hand with landscaping architects, although there has been a trend of late where landscaping architects also take various courses in horticulture. There are also landscaping contractors who have specialists in lighting. There are also landscapers whose job is to keep the plants in good condition.

There maybe half a dozen types of landscapers in the world. But simply put, a landscaper is anyone who works with space outdoors to make it sustainable, and enjoyable, which is pretty much what nature should be.
